Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain has said well-planned urbanisation is always a priority issue for the government.
“Taking into consideration the huge population growth, the government is planning to gradually establish more satellite towns like Purbachal, Jhilmil in and around Dhaka and other metropolitan cities,” he said.
The minister was addressing a seminar titled ‘Well-planned Urbanisation & Development: Involving Private Sector under Public Private Partnership (PPP)’ organised by International Business Forum of Bangladesh (IBFB) at Sonargaon Hotel in the city.
Engineer Mosharraf said keeping scarcity of lands in mind, it is now being planned to allocate apartments instead of plots to the government employees to ensure best utilisation of land.
Hafizur Rahman Khan, IBFB President and Chairman of Runner Group of Companies, presided over the seminar while former commerce secretary Suhel Ahmed Chowdhury presented the keynote paper.
Suhel Ahmed Chowdhury made a number of suggestions, including sharing experiences of Kuala Lumpur, Delhi, Singapore and Hong Kong and building more satellite cities in the country.
The seminar was attended by both the public and private sector stakeholders, including housing, real estate and land development sector.
