Politicians, academics and professionals on Friday at a discussion meeting in the capital expressed concern over increasing number of incidents of repressions of women and children in the country.
They called on the government to put an end to sorts of repression and attacks on the women and children.
Samajtantrik Mahila Forum, the women front of Socialist Party of Bangladesh, organised the national convention on repressions on women and children at Swadhinata Hall, at Segunbagicha in the city.
The convention was inaugurated by holding a rally in front of National Press Club in Dhaka, which was followed by two sessions of discussion.
SPB general secretary Khalequzzaman said, ‘We must ensure the security of the women and children, for establishing a repression-free society.’
The government had failed to ensure the security of the citizens, Khalequzzaman alleged.
He urged the women rights bodies to wage movements to press home their demands.
Sultana Kamal, a human rights activist, said the movements of women rights bodies were not targeted against the men rather the men must be an integral part of the movements.
Jahangirnagar University teacher and also a social activist Anu Muhammad said the men in the society would not remain safe if the women faced repressions.
SMF president Raushan Ara Russo chaired the discussion sessions and announced programmes of the right body, including collection of mass signature against the women repression from August 20 to October 19, handing over the signatures to the home minister on October 20 and holding a rally in front of the Press Club.
