Govt more upset as discontent grows: BNP

Taking a dig at the government for its ‘repressive’ acts, Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Friday alleged that the regime has turned even more desperate as people have started raising their voice against its misrule.

In a statement, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, said, “When the country’s people have started becoming vocal against the current regime’s autocratic and brutal repressive acts, it has got more desperate and unnerved.”

The statement was issued protesting the jailing of Sunamganj district unit BNP’s ex-general secretary Rafiqul Islam and 23 others leaders and activists of Dharmapasha upzila unit of the party by a court rejecting their bail pea in a ‘false’ case.

He strongly protested and condemned the sending of the BNP men to the jail in the case.

Fakhrul alleged the government is trying to create panic among people by filing ‘false’ cases against BNP men, brutally repressing them after placing them on remand and resorting to killings, abductions and enforced disappearances.

Claiming that the government has become isolated from people, the BNP leaders aid the government is resorting to repressive acts so that opposition leaders and activists cannot put up any strong resistance against its despotic and anti-people activities.

He warned the government that it will not be able to escape its fall with these repressive acts.

The BNP spokesman also threatened that they together with the country’s people will resist the current ‘wayward and illegal’ regime.

Fakhrul demanded the government release the 24 Sunamganj BNP men after withdrawing the ‘fabricated and politically motivated’ case filed against them.
