BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday alleged that the government is not allowing BNP to hold a rally in the city marking 7 November as it ‘fears’ the party, reports news agency UNB.

“We’d repeatedly observed 7 Nov in the past. We’ve planned to hold a rally this time as well, but they won’t want to allow us to do so. Though they held a rally there (Suhrawardy Udyan), we can’t do it as they fear us and our rally,” she said.

The BNP chief came up with the remarks while exchanging views with district unit leaders of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal at her Gulshan office.

She said the government will not be able to keep people confined to their houses and shut their mouths for a long time. “We’ll be out there in field. We’ll surely hold our programmes together with people.”
Having denied permission to hold its rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, the party on Friday said it sought fresh permission to stage it in front of its Naya Paltan central office on 8 November marking the ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’.

Speaking at a programme on Saturday, DMP commissioner Mohammad Asaduzzaman Miah, however, said they did not get fresh application from BNP for giving it permission to hold its rally at Naya

Paltan.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday termed ‘untrue’ the DMP commissioner’s statement.
Khaleda said the government is trying to block BNP at every step as her party has been on a path of truth and fairness.

“We’re mentally strong, and we’ll finally succeed.”

She alleged that people are going through a tough time to cope with skyrocketing prices of daily essentials.
The BNP chief said farmers are losing interest in producing crops as they are not getting fair prices.

“Ruling party men are getting benefited from farmers produces as middlemen.”
She accused the Awami League leaders of indulging in widespread plundering of Tk 10 per kg rice meant for the ultra-poor.
Mentioning that the government has failed to ensure public security, Khaleda said women and children are being repressed regularly by the ruling party men.
Khaleda demanded the government reconstitute the Election Commission and hold the next national election under a non-party administration so that people can exercise their voting right properly.
