Govt eyes import-substitute products: Amu

 

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Friday said the government would work to achieve self-sufficiency in producing import substitute products through expanding industrialisation at the grassroots level.

 

“Achieving self-sufficiency in producing import-substitute products is one of the major goals of the present government,” he said.

 

The minister said the government would concentrate on building small and cottage industry in rural areas to achieve the goal.

 

He made the remarks while addressing separate functions at Jhalakati Government Boys High School and Government Harchandra Girls High School, said a handout.

 

The Industries Minister said the present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is continuing to work for people’s welfare and peace.

 

When BNP Jamaat burns down children’s textbooks, Awami League has taken a wider programme for the overall development of children, he said.

 

Amu also said the government has set a rare example by handing over new books to children at the very beginning of the New Year amid violence unleashed by the then opposition.

 

The senior AL said the BNP-Jamaat alliance had tried to push the country towards backwardness through killings and creating anarchy.

 

The Industries Minister said the government is determined to continue development work in the next five years.

 

Jhalakati municipal mayor Afzal Hossain Rana and district AL general secretary adv Khan Saifullah also spoke at the functions held with Jhalakati DC M Shakhawat Hossain in the chair.
