Govt deprives Khaleda of rights: BNP

Khaleda Zia

The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party claimed on Monday that its chairperson, Khaleda Zia, was deprived of all kinds of human rights.

‘The government snatched away BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s human rights. Even today, Khaleda Zia is not getting bail. She is not getting proper treatment,’ BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, taking part in a prayer session.

Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal organised the prayer session for the well-being of Khaleda Zia at BNP’s Naya Paltan central office.

Alleging that the Awami League had once agitated for the caretaker government, Rizvi said that now the party was busy suppressing the opposition party through various conspiracies.

‘One-party rule is being established in the country. The government has destroyed the country’s democracy through dummy elections,’ he added.

Accusing the law minister of destroying the country’s judiciary at the orders of the prime minister, Rizvi said that the government had turned the entire country into a prison by imprisoning thousands of opposition leaders and activists.

Rizvi claimed that the economy of the country was in a big crisis due to the government’s corruption.

‘All the dictators of the world have fallen. The authoritarian government of Bangladesh will also fall. This dictatorial government will be swept away by the water of Padma, Meghna, and Jamuna in the people’s movement,’ he said.

Earlier in the day, Rizvi, along with a group of BNP leaders and activists, staged a protest march demanding the release of Khaleda Zia and the party secretary general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

They started the march from the Shantinagar crossing and ended it at Kakrail.

The opposition people chanted different slogans demanding the resignation of the Awami League government and the cancellation of the ‘illegitimate dummy election.’
