BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Friday alleged that the government is hatching a conspiracy to impose a state of emergency to prolong its stay in power by creating an anarchic situation in the country.
“They (govt) are conspiring to create an anarchic situation in the country to declare emergency in a bid to cling to power,” he said while addressing a human chain organised by Keraniganj Model Thana Swechchhasebak Dal in front of the National Press Club.
The programme was arranged demanding the withdrawal of ‘false’ cases filed against opposition leaders, including BNP joint secretary general Amanullah Aman, and their unconditional release.
Alleging that the government itself declared a blockade and hartal to foil the long march of Hefazat-e-Islam, Mosharraf said, “They (govt) have no right to impede a democratic and peaceful movement.”
“On the one hand, the government gave permission to Hefazat-e-Islam to hold a rally; on the other hand, the government-backed organisations at its behest have announced hartal to hinder the programme,” he added.
The senior BNP leader alleged that the government announced a counter programme amid already an unstable political situation to put Bangladesh into a disastrous situation.
