Opposition BNP on Tuesday alleged that the government is trying to confuse people with their billboard campaign with ‘false’ information.

“The ruling party has so far puzzled people with their verbal words and now they’re making people confused exhibiting false and wrong information on billboards,” said senior BNP leader MK Anwar.

He brought the allegation while addressing a youth gathering at the Jatiya Press Club arranged by Swadhinata Forum, a pro-BNP organisation, demanding an end to the false propaganda and conspiracy against BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.

Anwar, also a BNP standing committee member, accused the ruling party of capturing the billboards, and said it will not help increase their votes.

He also alleged that the government has spent Tk 60 crore on disseminating ‘false and incorrect’ information through the billboards, hung flouting laws.

Countering the bill board information, the former agriculture minister said it has been described in the billboards that the government achieved food autarky whereas it imported 42 lakh tonnes of food. “If the country is self-sufficient in food why does the government import food?”

The BNP leader alleged that the government could not fulfill any of its electoral pledges rather it has given corruption an institutional shape.

He promised that BNP will eliminate corruption and establish the rule of law correcting its mistakes if the party returns to power.

He was also critical of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for not showing respect for revered citizens, saying Sheikh Hasina defamed many prominent persons, including Dr Yunus, Barrister Rafiqul Haque and journalist ABM Musa.
