Jatiya Party chief HM Ershad has urged the people to vote for his party once instead of the BNP and ruling Awami League ‘to bring peace’ to the country.
He gave this call while addressing a conference of the Lakshmipur district unit of the Jatiya Party, a constituent of the ruling alliance, in the district town on Thursday.
The former military dictator said: “Position of the Awami League is not good. There are godfathers in the Awami League. We don’t believe in godfather.
“We are the only party which doesn’t believe in godfathers. We believe in peace. We don’t believe in fundamentalism.”
Ershad, special envoy of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, highlighted the corruption and terrorism during the previous BNP-led Four-Party Alliance.
“What will happen if the BNP comes to power again? If the BNP comes (to power), Mr Tarique (Rahman) will be the prime minister. If he is the prime minister, there will be Hawa Bhaban, there will be bombings. People will be subject to enforced disappearance and murders.”
Ershad said people were scared of BNP Senior Vice-President Tarique Rahman.
He said the Jatiya Party would form government in future and urged the people of Lakshmipur to be with the party.
The Jatiya Party chief assured the district’s people of introducing a direct Lakshmipur-Dhaka launch service.
“I’ve created this Lakshmipur district. I’ll introduce Lakshmipur-Dhaka direct launch service asking the honourable prime minister and shipping minister, so that Lakshmipur people don’t need to go to Chandpur to get to Dhaka,” he said.
Ershad requested the industries minister to develop soybean-based industries in the district.
