Ottis Gibson
Former South African head coach Ottis Gibson on Monday said he was in discussion with the Bangladesh Cricket Board for the role of their national team’s new pace bowling coach.
‘Yes, there is a discussion going on of course. I’m not gonna deny that. But you know it’s still a long way from the grin,’ Gibson told reporters in Mirpur.
The former Caribbean pacer has been currently working as the head coach of Cumilla Warriors in the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League.
Bangladesh have been looking for a pace bowling coach following the departure of former South African pacer Charl Langeveldt, who was released by the BCB at the request of Cricket South Africa on December 18 after a five-month stint with the Tigers.
Gibson worked as the head coach of South African national team till 2019 ICC World Cup before he was sacked by CSA for their underwhelming performance in the tournament.
The 50-year old also served as the West Indies head coach from 2010 to 2014.
Gibson, who played two Tests and 15 one-day internationals for West Indies, also worked as a pace bowling coach of England national team for two different periods – 2007 to 2010 and 2015 to 2017.
Gibson said he was in love with the profession and was really looking forward to work with the fast bowlers in this part of the world.
‘Of course, I love cricket and I love bowling coaching. So, there is an opportunity here to come in and help young fast bowlers and I would of course, looking at that opportunity,’ said Gibson.
