‘As there was no fixed definition for liberation war, a lot of people have gotten freedom fighter certificate using false information,’ he says
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque has said the new list of genuine freedom fighters will be finalised by December 16.
The minister made the statement while addressing at a programme organised by Local Social Development Forum on Tuesday afternoon.
The programme was organised to honour meritorious students, freedom fighters, and talented individuals.
Mozammel Haque said as there was no fixed definition for liberation war, a lot of people have gotten freedom fighter certificate using false information.
“The definition of liberation war has now been fixed. Within next November, the genuine freedom fighters would be identified and after a selection process a new list would be made. Within March 26 next year, the freedom fighter certificate and ID card would be handed over to them,” he said.
Asked about the war crimes trial, he said: “I hope the verdict of several cases will be given within this month.”
The minister also hoped that the court would hand down the highest punishment to the war criminals.
