Election Working Group (EWG), a network of 29 non-government organisations, yesterday said the Gazipur City Corporation election was held quite peacefully and fairly except some sporadic incidents related to violations of the election code and irregularities in the procedural system.
EWG has identified some flaws, including allegations of conducting campaigns and brining out small processions, on the election day, among others.
The voters’ turnout was 60 percent in the election, it said in a statement.
The network also expressed satisfaction over the law and order situation, calling the election environment “generally peaceful”.
EWG, however, placed some recommendations, including appropriate selection of polling stations and booths, increasing voters’ awareness about the voting process, and ensuring comprehensive training to polling personnel.
