Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad
Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Monday assured Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Ajmat Ullah Khan of his party’s full support in Gazipur City Corporation elections.
Ershad made the assurance when Ajmat met with him at his Baridhara residence in a frantic effort to get his blessings for winning the mayoral race slated for July 6.
During an hour long meeting, the JP chief assured the mayoral aspirant that he would asked his party leaders and activists of Gazipur to begin campaign in full swing for him (Ajmat), a JP presidium member told The Daily Star seeking anonymity.
The JP presidium member was present during the meeting between Ershad and Ajmat that began around 9:00am.
Ajmat sought Ershad’s support as JP, a component of the ruling grand alliance, are divided over extending support to the mayoral candidate.
Activists of Gazipur city JP led by its president Monwar Hossain are working for AL favourite Ajmat Ullah Khan while the party’s district unit members led by its president Kazi Mahmud Hassan and general secretary Nurul Islam are campaigning in favour of BNP-backed mayoral candidate MA Mannan.
