Garo girl rape accused put on six-day remand

A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on Tuesday placed the prime accused of Garo girl rape case, Rafsan Hossain Rubel, on six-day remand under police custody.

Metropolitan magistrate Sabbir Yasir Arafat Chowdhury passed the order as police produced him after re-arrest.

Md Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Badda police station, sought 10-day police remand.
Rubel, however, pleaded with the court not to put him on police remand as he assumed that ‘police might have killed’ him during interrogation.

There was no lawyer for the accused in the court.

Badda police on Tuesday re-arrested Rubel who escaped from police custody at chief metropolitan magistrate court on Sunday in Dhaka.

Officer-in-charge of Badda police station MA Jalil said they arrested Rubel in front of the Subastu Tower in Badda area this morning.

Earlier on Friday night, Rapid Action Battalion detained Rubel in the city’s airport rail station area on charge of raping a Garo girl inside a microbus in the capital’s Badda on October 25.

Later two police personnel brought Rubel to the chamber of metropolitan magistrate Emdadul Huq for recording his confessional statement on Sunday.

But the accused escaped when the police investigator left him alone and entered the chamber of the magistrate to seek permission for taking the accused to the magistrate’s chamber.

Two police personnel were suspended hours after the prime accused escaped from their custody at the court.

The suspended police personnel were Badda police station’s sub-inspector Imran-ul-Hasan, and constable Dipok Candra Poddar.

Rubel allegedly raped the 18-year-old woman after she had gone to north Badda to meet her betrothed on October 25.
