Mobile-phone operator Robi is introducing the Facebook project. Which means Robi users will be the first to enjoy the service.

According to the Information and Communication Technology Division, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak will inaugurate the service at a hotel in Dhaka at 11am on Sunday.

Top officials of Facebook will also attend the inauguration.

ICT Division officials said 26 websites, including those of some national dailies, National Web Portal, Bangladesh Government Service Portal and National Form Portal, can be visited under the service.

The other mobile-phone operators will join the project later.

All government sites and contents of important citizens’ service sites will also be made available gradually.

The Access to Internet (a2i) Programme took an initiative to launch the project in April last year but it had to be deferred due to some technical reason.

The project has already been launched in Tanzania, Kenya, Columbia, Ghana, Zambia and India.

Samsung, Ericsson, MediaTek, Opera, Qualcomm and Nokia are the associates of the project.
