A top leader of Khulna city unit of BNP and ex-lawmaker of Khulna-2 constituency, Nazrul Islam Manju, was booked into Khulna district jail on Monday after surrendering before a metropolitan magistrate court.
Metropolitan magistrate Md. Amirul Islam rejected his bail prayer in connection with a case involving attack on police two years ago.
Sub-inspector Anukul Chandra Biswas was the complainant of the case filed with Khulna sadar police.
An arrest warrant for Nazrul, president of Khulna city unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was issued on November 19, after the charge sheet of the case was pressed by the investigation officer, sub-inspector Ashraful Alam.
The officer-in-charge of Khulna Sadar police, Shafiqul Islam, said a total of 52 persons of BNP were named in the case that included former lawmaker Nazrul Islam Manju and suspended Khulna city mayor Moniruzzaman Moni.
A total of nine policemen were allegedly injured in that attack.
A total of 36 persons are now on bail while warrants for arrest have been issued by the court against 16 others. The suspended mayor has long been absconding.
