Ferry’s flag-stand hits Padma Bridge span

A ferry’s flag-stand hit a span of Padma Bridge at Mawa in Munshiganj this morning.

Flag-stand of the ro-ro ferry “Birshreshtha Jahangir” hit the span “One-B” around 8:30am, reports our local correspondent quoting Syed Tajul Islam, chairman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation.

The span is 18 metres above the water level.

On the way from Shimulia Ghat to Paturia Ghat, the flag-stand of “Birshreshtha Jahangir” hit the span while passing between the 2nd and 3rd pillars of the bridge, BIWTA chairman said.

“The flag-stand at the top of any ferry has to be lowered when crossing any bridge,” he noted.
