Female UP member hacked to death

A female union parishad member was hacked to death by miscreants at Pashchimgaon in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj around 6:00am on Wednesday.

The victim Beauty Akhter, 40, was an Awami League activist and UP member for ward 7, 8 and 9.

A number of unidentified miscreants charged Beauty Akhter as soon as she arrived at Pashchimgaon during her morning walk and hacked her dead on the spot, according to the locals and police.

Police recovered the body from the spot later.

Officer in charge (OC) of Rupganj police station, Mahmudul Hassan, confirmed the incident saying the body was sent to Narayanganj general hospital for autopsy.

Earlier, Beauty filed a case saying she had a loggerhead with the Bangabandhu Juba Council president Anwar Hossain and his supporters on 29 October last year. In the clash between supporters of the two groups, Beauty’s husband sustained injuries and after a week, died in the hospital, she claimed at that time.
However, no motive or any suspects could be identified so far, the OC added.
