The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) in its urgent board meeting on Sunday strongly condemned the ‘unwarranted’ remarks by Pakistanis about war crimes trials and for adopting resolution in Pakistan National Assembly on war criminal Abdul Quader Mollah’s execution.

The censure motion adopted by the country’s apex trade body condemning the Pakistan resolution will be sent to highest trade forum of the Saarc region – Saarc Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Pakistan’s apex trade body – Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

The FBCCI also demanded withdrawal of the resolution adopted by the Pakistan National Assembly for maintaining future trade ties with Pakistan smoothly.

The board meeting was held at the FBCCI office with its President Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed in the chair. The FBCCI board members, including first vice president Monwara Hakim Ali and vice president M Helal Uddin were also present.

Earlier in the day, a delegation of Ganajagaran Mancha, led by its spokesman Dr Imran H Sarkar, handed over a memorandum to the Foreign Ministry asking them to immediately ‘suspend’ diplomatic ties with Pakistan until it seeks apology for their ‘unwarranted’ interference in Bangladesh’s ‘absolute internal affairs’.

They said the diplomatic ties with Pakistan ‘could be restored’ once Pakistan seeks apology for their remarks on Bangladesh’s judicial process and adopting resolution in the Pakistan assembly and Punjab provincial assembly on the verdict of war crimes cases.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque received the memorandum and had a meeting with the delegation for nearly half an hour.
