A man has allegedly been beaten and stabbed for seeking justice for his daughter’s rape in Rajapur of Jhalakathi district.
A relative of the victim filed two separate cases against four on the allegations of rape and beating on Sunday.
According to the case statement, around 7.30pm on 26 May, Bellal Hawlader, 25, with the assistance of his friend Tawhid Molla, picked up a girl from her house and raped her in a banana orchard next to the house.
Later, they intimidated the victim not to disclose the incident.
According to the locals and the police, after an acknowledgment of the incident, the victim’s father went to the house of accused Bellal and demanded justice for the incident from his family.
Later a scuffle broke out between the two families. At one point, family members of Bellal beat and stabbed the victim’s father.
When the locals rushed to their house hearing the scream of the victim’s father, the perpetrators ran away.
Later, the girl’s father was rescued and admitted to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital. Bellal, his father and others are on the run since the incident.
Md Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rajapur police station said the victim has been sent to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital for medical test. Police are trying to arrest the accused.
