Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday accused the government of controlling the judiciary.
He said murders, enforced disappearance and abductions had marked a sharp rise as the government had been in office by force. They were carrying out fascist acts by controlling the judiciary.
The BNP leader made this statement while speaking at Sylhet city and district units’ party council at Shaheed Soleman Hall of Muslim Sahittya Sangsad in the city.
The government was being alienated from people and indulging in fascist activities in a bid to consolidate its power, he alleged.
Accusing the government of besieging democracy, he said: “The country is now in a great danger. It’s the high time to save the country from this situation.”
He called upon his party colleagues to get united and make BNP stronger to restore democracy under the leadership of party chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Among others, BNP leader Enam Ahmed, Mohammad Shahjahan, Tahmmina Rushdir Luna and Sammi Akter spoke on the occasion.
