A court here on Tuesday placed BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on a five-day fresh remand in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act with Motijheel Police Station.
Metropolitan Magistrate Imdadul Haq passed the order when Detective Branch of police sub-inspector Anwar Hossain, also the investigation officer of the case, produced the BNP leader before his court seeking a 10-day remand.
In his forwarding, the IO told the court that Fakhrul needs to be taken on remand to trace the absconding accused and for the sake of proper investigation. On the other hand, Fakhrul’s counsel Advocate Sanaullah Miah filed a bail petition.
After hearing, the court rejected the bail petition and granted a five-day remand.
On January 4, miscreants torched a private car in front of Baitul Mamur Jame Masjid at AGB Colony in Motijheel.
SI of Motijheel Police Station Suman Chandra Nath filed a case against 81 BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists, including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah and Barkatullah Bulu, in this regard.
Fakhrul, now in custody, was earlier put on a three-day remand on January 27 in another case filed under the Explosive Substances Act with Paltan Police Station.
On January 6, plain-clothes police arrested the BNP acting secretary general as he came out of the Jatiya Press Club after about 25 hours of stay there.
