BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Wednesday said that the results of the upcoming parliamentary election will be rigged in favour of Awami League if it is held under the party’s supervision.
“If the election is held this way, all the votes will go for the ‘Boat’ symbol no matter whomever you cast those for,” the BNP leader said while addressing a rally in the capital.
Swechhasebak Dal organised the rally at the Diploma Engineers’ Institute in the capital marking the sixth anniversary of the release of BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman from jail.
“The prime minister said in London that there will be a mini cabinet where the opposition can also join. But she changed her position after realising that nothing could save them (from losing state power),” said Fakhrul.
Asking the opposition activists to take preparation for a “tougher agitation”, he said: “We have few weeks in hand for preparation. We have no alternative. Within this time, we have to prepare ourselves perfectly and force the government to step down.”
Reiterating the demand of a neutral caretaker government, he expressed hope that people would not participate in the election as planned by the government to stay in power for a longer time.
