The High Court on Tuesday granted a three-month bail to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
An HC bench, comprising justice Md Rezaul Haque and justice Md Khasruzzaman, passed the order.
Deputy attorney general Fazlur Rahman Khan represented the state while Joynul Abedin, Sagir Hossain and Ehsanur Rahman stood for the BNP leader in the court.
Ehsanur Rahman told Prothom Alo that the HC bench granted the bail after dismissing the High Court’s rule on the bail plea filed by Mirza Fakhrul.
Earlier on 15 November, the High Court re-fixed 22 November for giving an order on the bail plea of BNP acting secretary general in three cases in connection with acts of sabotage.
On 6 January, plainclothes police picked up Fakhrul as he came out of the Jatiya Press Club after nearly 25 hours of stay there following BNP’s announcement to observe January-5 as ‘Democracy Killing Day’, protesting the 10th parliamentary polls held on the day.
