Fakhrul gets bail in 3 arson cases

The High Court on Thursday granted bail to detained acting Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in the three arson cases until the police press charge sheets in those cases.
The bench of Justice Md Nuruzzaman and Justice Abdur Rab issued the bail orders after disposing the three petitions Fakhrul had filed in April seeking bail in the cases.
Of the three cases, two were filed with Paltan police station for torching a government bus at Paltan intersection on December 29, 2014 and torching a police motorbike and blasting crude bombs at Purana Paltan Culvert Road on January 6, 2015 respectively.
The rest one was filed with Motijheel police station for torching a vehicle near AGB Colony in Motijheel and blasting crude bombs there on January 4, 2015.
On April 16, the bench issued rule on the government to explain why Fakhrul should not be granted bail in the three cases. It however granted six months bail in another case filed with Paltan police station on January 4, 2015, for torching a bus of New Vision Paribahan near the Baitul Mukarram mosque.
Fakhrul is needed to obtain bail in three other cases for his release from jail. A High Court bench is scheduled for June 21 for hearing bail petitions, said his lawyer Ehsanur Rahman told New Age.
Fakhrul, who is now in the Kashimpur part-2 jail, was arrested at the National Press Club area on January 6 and implicated in the seven cases along with top BNP leaders as the abettors of transports arson incidents during the country-wide blockades called by BNP-led alliance in January.
