Fakhrul ‘confident of win’
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said there has been a sense of awakening among the people and that indicates changes are about to happen.
“We still think we are going to win the polls. The power of the mass is so strong that it can conquer anything,” Fakhrul said while speaking to the journalists at his residence in Thakurgaon in the morning.
“Opposition candidates and their men are being attacked across the country. And the state is patronising such acts. There is no congenial environment. It has become a farce,” said the BNP leader.
About the neutrality of the administration, Mirza Fakhrul said, “The presiding officers were asked not to let anyone stand against the state. Who is acting against the state here? Everybody is just participating in the polls.”
“The opposition parties are failing to do anything. They are being barred from electioneering. Last night, I saw Awami goons parading the streets with arms, machetes and sticks. They were threatening people not to go to the polling centres,” Fakhrul added.
He also alleged that the ‘Awami goons’ have been torching BNP offices and houses of the minority people and blaming BNP for all those horrific activities.
“We will be in the polls race. We will stay in the polls till the end,” Fakhrul said when asked whether the Oikya Front will stay in the polls under the circumstances.
