Gonoforum president and eminent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain on Monday said extrajudicial killing is a crime against humanity.
“I would like to state it clearly that extrajudicial killing is a crime against humanity and a punishable offence,” he told a meeting with party presidium members at its central office in the morning.
Dr Kamal bemoaned that people and their property are not safe in the country even after 42 years of its independence. “Still, they find stories of extrajudicial killings, murders and enforced disappearances in newspapers.
“Now the panicked people seek the security of their lives. But the law enforcers, whose duty is to save public life and property, are involved in the incidents of extrajudicial killing and disappearance. As citizens we’re deeply concerned,” he said.
The Gonoforum president said people want the security of their lives and property, and the rule of law in the country.
He urged the government to stop all the illegal activities and bring the criminals to justice to restore peace in society.

If what Dr. Kamal Hossain says is correct, can we then hope for an investigation and trial of the criminals of this on going crime against humanity at the International Court of Justice at the Hague ?
Dr. Kamal Hossain’s stand on different issues raises many questions. He claims to be one of the chief makers of our constitution. There, he said very emphatically, is the basic ‘democratic rights’ such as people’s right to exercise their opinions and sentiments through open, fair, inclusive, credible and genuine’ elections. But most shockingly, the scope of exercising that right has been abrogated through the 15th Amendment. Even the ‘Referendum Clause’ has been deleted from the constitution. But so far, we have never heard Dr. Kamal taking any clear and strong stand against that anti-people amendment. And how democracy has been raped revealed in the last January 5 national election. But we have been hearing Dr. Kamal yelling at people about the danger democracy is face to face with. Ironically, whenever the nation is troubled with serious problems, he just moves out of the country. Very mysterious indeed!
