Terming the Anti Corruption Commission’s inquiry against him very positive, former State Minister for Water Resources Mahbubur Rahman evaded media at the ACC head office here on Sunday.

“I replied to everything the ACC wanted to know. So, I’ve no comment in this regard,” he told reporters at the Commission head office in the afternoon after having been grilled by the ACC inquiry officer on charges of amassing wealth illegally.

The former junior minister then got into his car parked on the ACC premises giving little scope to the media personnel to ask him any question.

ACC deputy director Khairul Huda started quizzing Mahbubur Rahman at 11:30 am and continued it still 1:30 pm, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.

The Commission on February 12 sent a notice to the former junior minister asking him to appear in person at the ACC head office on the stipulated date to face grilling.

Earlier, on January 22, the ACC appointed seven inquiry officials to conduct probes into the allegations of amassing wealth illegally by seven politicians, including Mahbub.

As per the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission for the 10th parliamentary polls, the wealth of Mahbub is worth about Tk 5.26 crore while his wife’s about Tk 1.26 crore. He mentioned in his affidavit that his income of over Tk 20 lakh comes from allowance and salary as MP, Tk 1.5 crore from fisheries sector, and his unmovable wealth is nearly worth Tk 5 crore.

However, as per the affidavit submitted to the EC before ninth parliamentary polls in 2008 by him, Mahbub mentioned his wealth worth only Tk 50.33 lakh while his wife’s Tk five lakh.

ACC sources said during today’s grilling Mahbub claimed that he has no illegal wealth as he has documents of sources of income.

On February 4, the assigned ACC inquiry officer visited Patuakhali-4 constituency to collect information as part of his probe into the allegations of illegal wealth accumulated by Mahbub.
