Former Awami League lawmaker Hemayet Ullah Aworanga and four others were killed as their car collided with a bus on the Dhaka-Mawa highway in Munshiganj on Saturday.
Police said the accident happened in Medinimondol area of Louhajang upazila around 4:00pm, killing four people on the spot and injuring three others.
One of the injured died at a local hospital around 4:45pm, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.
Zakiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Louhajang Police Station, told The Daily Star that the ex-MP’s vehicle went out of control after one of its front tyres punctured, resulting in the head-on collision.
The 60-year-old AL leader was elected Member of Parliament from Shariatpur-1 constituency for two times in 2001 and 1991.
The four other deceased were identified as Jamal Munshi, 50, Md Yasin, 45, Ratan Talukder, 44, and Nuruddin Peda, 35.
The injured driver, Jalal, and Nuruzzman were admitted to DhakaMedicalCollegeHospital.
