Investigators said on Wednesday they had found evidence that a Faridpur-based BNP leader was involved in 13 incidents of war crimes.
The allegations against MA Zahid Hossain Khokon, vice president of BNP’s Nagarkanda upazila unit, include genocide, murder, torture, rape and forced conversion to Islam, Mohammad Abdul Hannan Khan, chief of the investigation agency, said at a press briefing in his Dhanmondi office.
Khokon is also the incumbent chairman of Nagarkanda upazila municipality in Faridpur.
He went into hiding immediately after the probe body of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) started investigation against him in April 16 in 2012.
The probe body came with the findings after completing its investigation against the BNP leader for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.
After getting the report, the prosecution will inform the tribunal and would prepare formal charges against the BNP man, he said.
The probe body will hand over the report to the prosecution of the ICT on Thursday, said Sanaul Huq, a senior member of the probe body.
