Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad has asked the Opposition BNP to join a dialogue to resolve the political impasse over the nature of polls-time government.
“Let’s sit together and hold talks,” Ershad said at a press conference on Monday, pointing to the BNP.
The Jatiya party chief who quit the Awami League led Grand Alliance, said the Prime Minister had come forward to hold dialogue.
“Let’s now move forward,” he urged BNP.
Ershad said if the government was not sincere about holding the dialogue, they would boycott the election together.
He said all parties should participate in the polls for a handover of power in a democratic manner.
“If we experience rigging during polls, we will boycott the election.”
The Jatiya Party chief said his party believes in handing over of power through election.
“A party as well as its activists cannot exist without election,” he said.
Ershad blamed the two major parties for the ongoing unrest over the poll-time government.
All the violence and deaths have taken place not for the good of the people but because of a struggle for power , he said.
Ershad hoped BNP would come forward to resolve the present crisis.
“We have to think of a resolution ourselves,” he said.
The Jatiya Party chief formally announced at the press conference that he was no longer associated with the Grand Alliance.
