Jatiya Party (JP) chairman HM Ershad on Tuesday condemned the cabinet decision to take action against Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus for his alleged tax evasion.
“I strongly condemn the government’s resentful conducts towards Dr Yunus. The cabinet decision against him is vary depressing. Such conduct has made the whole nation bend their head before the world,” he said in a statement.
The Cabinet on Monday asked the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to take action against Prof Muhammad Yunus as per its report for his alleged tax dodging on his foreign incomes.
“I urge the government to stop this vengeful conduct towards Dr Yunus and show him the appropriate honour,” it added.
“When the whole world reveres him (Yunus), the government of his own country has been after him with harassment, dishonour and insult,” the JP chairman lamented.
“If a global figure as famous and revered as Yunus can fall prey to government harassment and feel insecure, then there’s no need to speak of how helpless the common folks of the country are,” he said.
