He attended Sunday’s session in Parliament but skipped the meeting on the same premises.

Apart from the party chief, Secretary General Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu and Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud were also absent in the meeting that took place amid the internal feud in Jatiya Party.

They were with Ershad at his room when the meeting was underway.

Apart from them, five others of 35 party MPs did not join the meeting presided over by Raushon.

However, Presidium Member Md Mujibul Haque Chunnu at a press briefing after the meeting claimed that there was no division in their party.

He said they were unified under the leadership of Ershad and Raushon. “There might be competition among us, but there are no differences or grouping.”

Asked about the absence of Ershad and the others in the meeting, Chunnu told reporters, “I cannot say anything about that.”

However, following the meeting, minutes after Sunday’s session began around 5pm, Ershad and Raushon entered the floor.

They sat side by side in the first row. Ershad could also be seen speaking to his wife before he left five minutes after the session started.

One Jatiya Party leader, on the condition of anonymity, told bdnews24.com: “Sir (Ershad) was concerned about creating an embarrassing situation because of the party’s current condition and that’s why he avoided the meeting.”
