Ensure overall security at Dhaka airport: Minister

 

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon on Tuesday asked all concerned to ensure overall security as well as improving the services at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

 

Speaking at an inter-ministerial meeting at the Secretariat on the overall security of the airport, the minister also directed the authorities concerned to perform their duties with cautions that the passengers do not get any negative impression about its security measures.

 

Rashed Khan Menon observed that lessons need to be learned from the recent tragic accident of the Malaysian aircraft.

 

Emphasising the matter of full digitalisaiton of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, he said every process of the airport should be brought under automation.

 

Various recommendations were also placed at the meeting that include reducing the transit hours for passengers from 72 hours to 24 hours, reducing the transit fee below the current rate of US$ 21, continuing the use of scanner machine at the VIP lounge, separating the entry and the exit terminals and barring the International Terminal of the Airport to passengers of internal flights.

 

The meeting was also attended by Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Khorshed Alam Chowdhury and Civil Aviation Authority chairman Air Vice Marshal Mahmud Hossain.
