Muslims all over the country are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr joining their beloved ones in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities.

The full scale celebrations of Eid began after Eid prayers in mosques and Eidgahs (open-air mosques) following a month of fasting.

Muslims from all walks of life, young and old, rich and poor, offered the morning prayers that mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The country’s largest Eid congregation was held at Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj district. Lakhs of Muslims offered prayers there seeking divine blessings, peace and progress for the country.

In the capital, the main Eid congregation was held at the National Eidgah near the High Court at 8:30am. Khatib of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Prof Maulana M Salahuddin led the prayer. President Abdul Hamid offered the Eid prayers at the National Eidgah.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is observed as a fasting period by Muslims who abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset and it culminates in Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

“Although we do this every year, we keep enjoying it more and more. The adventure is different each time and it is a great chance for us to bond,” says M Fazlur Rahman, a retired secretary.
