Dhaka Wasa and five NGOs on Sunday signed two deals aiming to provide water connections to the low-income community of Sattola Slum in Mohakhali and Korail Slum in Banani areas.
The five non-government organisations are Dushtha Shasthya Kendra (DSK), Population Services and Training Centre (PSTC), Nagar Sheba, NDBUS and Bangladesh Association for Social Advancement (BASA).
Commercial manager of Dhaka Wasa Engr Uttam Kumar Roy and representatives of the NGOs signed the agreements at Dhaka Wasa conference centre.
Managing director of Dhaka Wasa Engr Taqsem A Khan and its senior officials were present at the signing ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Taqsem Khan said Dhaka Wasa is committed to providing safe drinking water to all the slums of Dhaka city by December 2015. This deal is part of the Dhaka Wasa programme for the low-income community (LIC) to bring them under legal water network, he added.
Thanking the development partners and the local NGOs, the Wasa MD said the way Wasa is working for the LIC is a model for the third world.
Dhaka Wasa is currently providing water to 63,618 families of 300 slums through 977 water connections, including 15,554 families of Korail through 226 connections.
