Saturday’s admission test of SUST, JSTU postponed
Prof Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal and his wife Prof Dr Yasmeen Haque, both teachers of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), resigned on Tuesday over the annulment of the university’s combined admission test.
SUST authorities at an academic council meeting on Tuesday noon decided to cancel the combined admission process of the university and Jessore Science and Technology University (JSTU).
At the same time, the combined admission test for the first year honours courses for the two universities scheduled for November 30 has been postponed.
University sources said Prof Zafar Iqbal, a teacher of the SUST Computer Science Department, and Prof Yasmeen of Physics Department, submitted their resignation letters to the university registrar in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, students of the university went on a movement on Tuesday demanding that the combined admission test be reinstated and that the resignation letters of the couple not be accepted.
This year, the admission test of SUST and JSTU was supposed to be held with an identical question paper.
However, different local organisations had gone on a movement opposing the admission process.
Following the movement, the SUST authorities cancelled the admission process on Tuesday.
Prof Zafar Iqbal was involved with the combined admission process of both SUST and JSTU.
