Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) started a three-day special drive from Wednesday night to prevent chemical-tainted fruits from entering the capital city.
DMP has decided to conduct the special drive amid growing concern over fruits laced with chemicals entering the city.
The decision of the drive was taken at a coordination meeting at DMP headquarters held on Tuesday with DMP Commissioner Benazir Ahmed in the chair.
Representatives from different organisations, including Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka district, Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB), BSTI, DCC and FBCCI attended the meeting.
The meeting decided to set up check posts at eight entry points –– Postagola Bridge point, Signboard on Dhaka-Chittagong road, Sultana Kamal Bridge of Demra, Babu Bazar Bridge, Waizghat of Sadarghat, in front of Parbata Cinema Hall of Gabtali, near Tongi Bridge of Abdullahpur and Dhaur Bridge of Mirpur Embankment –– from 8pm to check all vehicles carrying fruits, especially mangoes and litchis.
