‘Discarded’ Bangladesh Bank notes surface in Bogura waterbody
Local people in Bogura’s Shahjanpur upazila discovered huge amounts of “discarded” notes of Bangladesh Bank in a waterbody.
They first noticed it after the notes started to wash up on the banks of the waterbody in Chandai village on Sunday, reports our Bogura correspondent quoting locals.
The bank notes were supposed to be disposed at a designated place but the driver of a truck who was given the task to carry it there dumped it in the pond, the correspondent said quoting officials.

Bangladesh Bank had around 2000 sacks of abandoned Bank notes that they wanted to discard but they did not want to burn the notes as it would pollute the environment, the acting Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank (Bogura Branch) Jagannath Chandra Ghosh was quoted as saying according to our Bogura correspondent.
Some of the sacks full of rejected notes were handed over the municipality on Saturday as they are tasked with disposal of waste, the official said.
Meanwhile, Mamunur Rashid, in-charge of the Conservancy section of the Bogura municipality said a truck full of the rejected notes was sent for disposal at their designated dumping grounds.
However, the responsible truck driver who lives near the Chandai village dumped the rejected notes in the waterbody by the Khaura bridge on Sunday.
Meanwhile, an administration officer of the municipality who was not willing to be named accepted that the municipality dumped the bank notes in the waterbody but said it was not the right decision to take.
