“I don’t how and from where you got this story. I haven’t spoken to her in recent months ,” was Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad’s response to reporters on Thursday on the news of having a telephone conversation with Khaleda Zia.
The story was published Tuesday in a section of the media , after BNP standing committee member Abdul Moeen Khan met with the chief election commissioner.
Ahmad, who served as a secretary during Khaleda’s last term, said that he has not spoken to the BNP chief since Feb 2012, when he took charge as CEC.Khaleda has been criticising the EC’s recent activities, describing it as ‘spineless’ in her recent public rally at Rajshahi on Monday.
“I request you to publish authentic news. You have a holy duty. Do not confuse the public at such a time,” the CEC said to reporters seeking his reaction on Khaleda’s remarks.
Commenting on Khaleda’s tirade, Election Commissioner Md Zabed Ali on Wednesday told reporters that the commission had ‘a healthy and strong enough spine to stand on its own feet’.
The Chief Election Commissioner expressed concern over that news as well.
“Do not twist and turn things. Publish authentic facts clearly, the nation will be thankful to you,” he told the media.
