Dhaka, Washington initial US-BD Open Skies Air Transport deal

Bangladesh and USA have initialled an Open Skies Air Transport Agreement formalising the liberalisation of bilateral aviation relationship.

The Open Skies Agreement will create opportunities for strengthening the economic partnership between the United States and Bangladesh through closer links in transport and trade, said a media note released by the US State Department on Friday night.

Delegations representing the United States and the Bangladesh were present while agreeing on the deal in Washington on Thursday.

Open Skies deals allow air service by the airlines of both countries between and beyond the other’s territory, allowing airline managements to determine how often to fly, the kind of aircraft to use, and the prices to charge.

“This agreement will strengthen and expand our strong trade, tourism and people-to-people links with Bangladesh, benefitting U.S. and Bangladeshi businesses and travelers by expanding opportunities for air services and encouraging vigorous price competition by airlines, while preserving our commitments to aviation safety and security,” said the media note.

The United States has Open Skies agreements with over 100 partners around the world.
