A deep depression over the northeast Bay of Bengal, adjoining coastal areas is likely to cross Bangladesh tomorrow morning.
A depression over the northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh and Indian state of West Bengal moved south-eastwards, concentrated into a deep depression and likely to cross Bangladesh tomorrow morning.
Squally winds with speeds of 48 to 60kmph may blow over Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Patuakhali, Feni, Chandpur, Bhola, Barisal, Pirojpur, Barguna, Khulna, Bagerhat and Satkhira, said Hafiz Uddin, professional assistant of Bangladesh Met office.
Sea ports of Bangladesh have been asked to hoist cautionary signal 3 and a tidal surge may hit coastal area about three to four feet over normalcy, he added.
The depression lay near lat. 21.00 N and long. 91.00 E, 160km south-southwest of Chittagong at 6:00am today, according to the met offices in Bangladesh and India.
The system would move nearly northwards and cross Bangladesh coast between longitude 90.50E and 91.50E around 30th forenoon, reports our Delhi correspondent quoting an official statement issued in India.
“Because of this, heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur at isolated places over the Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha during the next 48 hours and at a few places during the subsequent 24 hours over the region,” the statement said.
It added “squally winds with speeds of 50-60kmph gusting to 70kmph along and off West Bengal and north Odisha coasts are expected during the next 48 hours.”
The sea condition would be rough to very rough over North Bay of Bengal during the same period and fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off Bangladesh, West Bengal and north Odisha coasts during the same period, according to the statement.
