The Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) today imposed an indefinite ban on all kinds of political gatherings in the city from tomorrow as Awami League and BNP prepare for separate rallies at Laldighi Maidan for several days.
After Dhaka, Chittagong became the second metropolitan city to be slapped with such ban.
“The ban will be imposed from 6:00am tomorrow as the AL and BNP have sought permission for holding rallies for three and four consecutive days respectively from October 24 at the same venue near to the CMP headquarters,” CMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam told The Daily Star.
In the wake of the counter call for rallies, the CMP officials met in an emergency meeting in the afternoon and decided to impose the ban considering the safety and security of the citizens.
