DEMAND OF CANCELLATION OF QUOTA IN BCS EXAMS ‘Don’t fall in Shibir’s trap’

Government job seekers block the Shahbagh intersection on Tuesday chanting slogans to press home their demand for cancellation of quota system in public servants recruitment.

Two days into a demonstration by several hundred youths demanding cancellation of quota provision in public service recruitment, two organisations Friday demanded continuation of quota for the children of valiant sons of the soils who sacrificed their lives in the 1971 liberation war.

The leaders of the two pro-liberation organisations urged the youths, who demonstrated for cancelling the quota, not to fall in the Islami Chhatra Shibir’s conspiracy, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

Two organisations of offsprings of freedom fighters — Amra Muktijoddhar Sontan and Muktijoddha Sangsad Sontan Command — formed a human chain against the ‘conspiracy to abolish the quota system’ in front of Jatiya Press Club around 11:00am.

Humayun Kabir, president of Amra Muktijoddhar Sontan, said at first it took time for them to understand “the demand of reviewing the results of the 34th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations.”

“As they (demonstrators) took resort to destruction, we also took to the street,” Kabir said.

The organisations will announce their next course of action after discussion, the report said quoting the president.

Several hundred youths started demonstration against the quota provision in public service recruitment on Wednesday. On Thursday, they clashed with police for hours on the Dhaka University campus and adjoining areas leaving at least 30 injured.

The agitators damaged several vehicles and also DU registrar building, VC’s residence, proctor’s office and sociology department.
