Communist Party of Bangladesh and Socialist Party of Bangladesh on Thursday opened a 10-day countrywide ‘rail saving programmes’ to save railway and establish rights of the passengers.
The leaders and activists of the two parties organized a rally at Kamlapur Railway Station in this connection.
Addressing the rally, CPB president Mujahidul Islam Selim said the railway authorities raised train fares another time recently but did not improve facilities for the passengers.
Terming the train services as transport of the common people, he demanded reduction of the train fares and increasing facilities for passengers.
The SPB general secretary Khalequzzaman said that the Awami League-led government was not expanding the facilities of the train service according to the prescriptions of the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and donor bodies.
He called on the government to take steps to stop corruptions in the railway sector.
Kafee Ratan, a central leader of CPB, said the railway sector was facing trouble for the wrong policy of the government.
The CPB presidium member Sajjad Zahir Chandan, central leader Ruhin Hossain Prince and SPB city leader Khalequzzaman Lipon addressed the rally.
They called on the government to take immediate steps to build the railway a mass transport.
Leaders and activists went up to Gazipur by train and exchanged views with the passengers to drum up support for their programme to save the railway system.
The marchers held a rally at Jaydebpur Railway Station, where the leaders of the two parties spoke.
The leasders and activists of the two parties will go to Narayanganj today by train and hold a rally at Narayanganj Railway Station. Up to April 9, they will hold marches and rallies at the district level railway stations.
