A Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Wednesday ordered police to interrogate Bangladesh Nationalist Party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the jail gate within May 23 in three cases over vandalism and arsons in the capital on January 5.
Fakhrul was taken to the court around 10:00am as the metropolitan magistrate, Ashok Kumar Datta, passed the order rejecting a 30-day remand appeal by additional public prosecutor Tapos Kumar Pal.
The court’s order to allow police to quiz Fakhrul for only three days at jail gate against a 30-day remand appeal reflects its very little attention to the appeal for fresh charges.
The court asked the investigation officers of three cases Shafikul Islam and Morshed Alam to conclude their interrogation within May 23.
The bail application of Fakhrul was also rejected by the CMM court.
Earlier on Tuesday, police named BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul in three new cases filed with Paltan Police Station over torching vehicles in the capital in early January.
According to the court officials, one of the three cases was filed by police on January 5 against Fakhrul and 28 others for vandalising and torching a bus in front of Bangabandhu Hawkers Market at Gulistan in the capital.
The second case was filed against Fakhrul and 49 other leaders and activists of BNP on charge of setting fire to a motorbike of a policeman at Fakirapool on January 5.
Another case was filed against Fakhrul and 33 others for torching a BRTC bus at Purana Paltan on January 6.
