Bangladesh Police has ordered all law enforcers to consult with the Police Headquarter Law Division before filing any case with the ICT Act.
A meeting of police high officials, chaired by IGP Shahidul Hoque, took the decision regarding the matter on Wednesday.
The high officials talked elaborately about the law in the meeting, following which the Bangladesh police chief ordered all officials to contact the headquarters before filing any case under section 57 of the ICT Act in order to save innocent people from harassment.
Police Headquarters issued an order regarding the step, in which there are 3 directives to book the criminals and ensuring safety of innocents.
The three directives are –
1) Police officials have to be readily cautious while filing cases under Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology Act (revised), 2013.
2) If there is any confusion about the case filing and the matter, officials have to immediately take steps verify the authenticity of the accusations in the general diary.
3) Police officials have to contact the Law Division of the Police Headquarters before filing any case under the law and it must be ensured that innocent people are not affected or harassed by anyone by misusing the law.
