A complaint has been filed against BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman for calling Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman “Pakbandhu”.

Advocate Moshiur Malik, president of Bangabandhu Foundation, filed the complaint (Condemnation of the creation of the state) with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s (CMM) court under section 123 (A) of the Penal Code.

The case statement stated that Tarique Rahman termed Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as “Pakbandhu” while addressing a programme in London on September 29.

In the statement, the petitioner quoted Tarique: “Sheikh Mujib is not Bangabandhu, rather he is Pakbandhu. He cannot be the father of the nation, he is a killer.”

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Asaduzzaman Nur recorded Moshiur’s statement in the morning.

The court took the complaint into cognisance and ordered Detective Branc (DB) of police to submit a probe report within October 30.

BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s son Tarique Rahman has been in London since September 11, 2008, on medical grounds after getting parole in various cases.

He faces 14 charges, of which four, including the August 21 grenade attack case, are in trial and 10 are stayed.
