The intern doctors of Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) go on an indefinite strike from Saturday morning protesting attack on one of their fellows.
A group of miscreants stabbed Sohel Parvez Suman, an intern doctor and also a former president of CMCH unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), around 7:00am, reported our Chittagong correspondent quoting Salman Mahmud Siddique Rafsan, general secretary of Chittagong Medical College Central Students Union (CMCCSU).
Suman has been undergoing treatment at the CMCH, he added.
The interns also go on work abstention padlocking the entrance of the CMCH around11:00am.
The outdoor service of the hospital however was going on without any interruption when this report was filed around 3:00pm.
Rashedur Reza Sunny, president of Intern Doctors’ Association, claimed that the activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) led by Mohsin Abdullah, a former acting president of the CMC unit of ICS, attacked Suman.
He also told The Daily Star that they would continue their work abstention until the arrest of the culprits.
The agitating BCL men of the CMCH unit also barricade the Prabartak intersection in the city around 11:15am, halting vehicular movement on KB Fazlul Quader Road for half an hour.
On queries, Azizul Hakim Bappa, president of CMCH unit of ICS, denied their involvement with the attack.
