At least 10 people were hurt as activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Saturday chased away a group of people claiming to be activists of ‘real BNP’ in front of the party’s central office at Naya Paltan as the ‘real BNP’ men wanted to ‘capture’ the office.
Police said at least 10 people sustained injuries as the BNP activists chased away the people claiming to be ‘real BNP’.
Witnesses said some 100 followers of Kamrul Hasan Nasim, who claims to be leader of reconstruction in BNP, marched towards the BNP office from Fakirerpul crossing and reaching there faced resistance from Chhatra Dal and Juba Dal activists.
Nasim was not in the procession but observing the march from distance, the witnesses added.
BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed told New Age that the ‘attempt to occupy BNP’ was part of the government’s conspiracy against the party.
‘The government sent them to occupy BNP office. It is part of their blue-print to harass BNP and aimed to divert public attention from the unprecedented irregularities in municipality polls,’ he said.
Kamrul Hasan Nasim told New Age that police and BNP goons opened fire and blasted crude bombs on his followers that left 10 injured.
He said his followers went to attend office at Naya Paltan and had a plan to stage a people’s court to hold trial of the irregularities of BNP leaders.
Paltan police sub-inspector Mohammad Hanif said police later contained the situation firing blank shots. The clash left at least 10 injured, he said.
